Teeth Whitening Treatment in Adelaide

Everyone’s teeth are unique in shape and colour, and they discolour and stain in different ways. As the name suggests, treats stained or discoloured teeth. It is the simplest and most common cosmetic dental procedure done to date. Tooth whitening or teeth bleaching is an easy way to get a dazzling, white smile.

Over the years, teeth can become discoloured due to ageing, illness, certain foods, smoking, poor oral hygiene, trauma or any combination of these factors.

Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural teeth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. This may be done in the office or by means of take-home whitening. The most popular method is using a home teeth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically. Since teeth whitening only works on natural teeth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Teeth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up maybe needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.

If you are interested in getting teeth whitening then you may also be interested in other cosmetic dental treatments such as veneers.

Reasons for teeth whitening

  • Yellow or brown-stained teeth.
  • Enamel discolouration.
  • Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during teeth development).
  • Normal wear of the outer teeth layer.
  • Stained teeth due to medications (such as tetracycline).

In Office Whitening

In-office whitening is one of the simplest yet most transformative cosmetic procedures available. At MVDC, we utilise Pola-office+ whitening, which contains the fastest bleach available to safely whiten your teeth. It is pH neutral and specifically designed to protect sensitive dental nerves with its Pola Desensitizer Technology (PDT). This technology also minimises the likelihood of gum irritation, burning, pain, or long-term gum damage, as no UV light is required to activate the gel.

During your in-office whitening appointment, we will thoroughly discuss the procedure and evaluate whether you are the ideal candidate to ensure that you achieve the desired outcome. Before and after photos will be taken for our records – these photos can also be emailed to you upon request.

Teeth whitening works only on natural teeth and have no effects on false teeth or dental crowns. The treatment isn’t as effective on patients with intrinsic stains, so it doesn’t work on any ‘dead’ tooth, such as those teeth which have undergone root canal therapy. It only works great on extrinsic stains, like yellow and brown stains that have not yet affected the inner enamel. Intrinsic stains are the stains that are inside the tooth

Patients with extreme tooth sensitivity are advised against this procedure as well, as it can enhance the sensitivity level.
